The current market situation of new energy vehicles

2025-07-15

From the perspective of the domestic market, in the first half of 2025, China's production and sales of new energy vehicles reached 6.968 million and 6.937 million units respectively, increasing by 41.4% and 40.3% year-on-year. The sales of new vehicles accounted for 44.3% of the total sales of new vehicles. This figure has increased by 9.1 percentage points compared with 35.2% in the same period last year, and its proportion is about to approach "half of the total". New energy vehicles have become the core force driving the growth of China's auto market. Behind this, the rapid iteration of technology and the optimization of costs have driven the large-scale development and market popularization of new energy vehicles. For instance, Geely Automobile achieved a cumulative sales volume of 1.4092 million units in the first half of 2025, representing a year-on-year growth of 47%. Among them, the total sales volume of new energy vehicles was 725,200 units, up 126% year-on-year, accounting for 51.5% of the total sales volume. This marked the first time that it surpassed traditional fuel vehicles, signifying an initial success in its new energy transformation.

New energy vehicles have also performed outstandingly in exports. From January to June 2025, China's total auto exports reached 3.083 million units, up 10.4% year-on-year. Among them, the exports of new energy vehicles grew rapidly, reaching 1.06 million units, up 75.2% year-on-year. Chinese brand automobiles have covered over 200 countries and regions around the world, meeting the diverse demands of different markets. Take BYD as an example. It not only holds an important position in the domestic market but also actively expands its overseas business. The "Shenzhen" roll-on/roll-off ship, fully loaded with new energy vehicles, set sail for Europe, demonstrating the strong competitiveness of Chinese new energy vehicles in the international market.

From the perspective of the market competition pattern, the Chinese new energy vehicle market presents a diversified competitive situation. BYD and SAIC Motor both sold over 2 million vehicles. Faw Group, Changan Automobile, Geely Automobile and Chery Group formed the "one million vehicle camp", demonstrating the stable strength of leading enterprises. Among the emerging forces, XPeng, Leapmotor and Li Auto have entered the "200,000-unit club in half a year". Xiaomi Auto and HIMA have also achieved new breakthroughs. The sales of brands such as VOYAH, DEEPAL and AVATR have also seen significant growth. Meanwhile, traditional fuel vehicle enterprises are also accelerating their transformation. For instance, FAW-Volkswagen has stated that it will strive to seize market share in the fuel vehicle sector. Fuel vehicles and new energy vehicles are showing a phased trend of "advancing together" in the market. 11.jpeg
